Learning how to promote music on Spotify takes more than uploading a song. The platform gives artists free tools, and most of them are easy to use once you know where to look.

1. Claim your Spotify for Artists profile

Spotify for Artists is free. Once you claim your profile, you can update your photo and bio, see listener data, and pitch songs to editors. Without it, you can't do most of the steps below.

2. Pitch your next release to playlist editors

Spotify's editorial team builds playlists like New Music Friday and genre and mood playlists. You can pitch an unreleased song through Spotify for Artists, and it's free. Submit at least a week before release, since pitches sent late are less likely to be considered. Include a clear description of the song, its mood, and its genre.

Step 3 graphic: build your own Spotify playlists, showing a phone with a Chill Vibes playlist and a list of playlist ideas.

3. Build your own playlists

Make a few playlists that fit your sound, and add your own songs alongside artists your fans might like. Share them on social media. Listeners who follow a playlist can discover your music every time they open it.

4. Share your Spotify link everywhere

Put your artist link in your YouTube description, Instagram bio, and on your website. Use Spotify's smart links or pre-save links for upcoming releases so fans can save the song before it drops.

5. Use Canvas and your profile to hold attention

Spotify Canvas is a short looping video that plays behind your track on mobile. A simple visual of your song can make listeners more likely to save it. Keep your artist profile updated with new photos and your latest release.

6. Track what's working

Spotify for Artists shows where your listeners come from, which songs they play, and which playlists bring new fans. Check it after each release and do more of what works.
